New Year's Release: Akagi, Defender of Planet Earth

And now for something completely different! A lot of you have been requesting that we do the Akagi Zawa Zawa Anthology for some time now, and while we don't have the whole thing for you, we do have the longest and (imo) best parody in the anthology, Akagi: Defender of Planet Earth by Tony Takezaki! Let me just clarify that there are no spoilers for the real Akagi manga in this one (you could even read it without having heard of Akagi before and not be spoiled on hardly anything), so don't worry about that. More on that in a minute, but first...

Thanks to Crump for stepping up to clean this. Typesetting by me. Mahjong Night will be Saturday the 7th at 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST). I'm certain I'll be there this time, so no need to prepare for what might happen if I'm not.

Christmas Release: Akagi Chapter 191

Merry Christmas, everyone! Instead of opening presents and spending time with your family, why don't you sit down and read some Akagi? Sounds like a plan! Yeah, I was planning on making Pen-Chan Chapter 4 the christmas release, but we got a new typesetter for Akagi and he worked so hard to get this out before christmas so I figured it was for the best. He's still learning, so go easy on him!

Thanks to Tamburs for the typesetting, and to TA for the ever-consistent cleans. Mahjong Day will be this Saturday the 28th at 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST). Again, if I'm not there, feel free to have it without me and just post your scores on the Mahjong Night Standings blog page.

Akagi Chapter 190

I guess we're just on a roll here with the christmas season, and we should be getting lots more done here very shortly, as we've got a couple new typesetter applicants. In this chapter, we see whether Washizu's riichi was a good idea, or if it was a horrible mistake!!

Thanks to Iapetus for the cleans, and to TA for stepping up to typeset in the absence of Kazuhiko. Mahjong Day went well, let's try for another this Saturday at 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PDT).

Atsuize Pen-Chan Chapter 3

Yeah, I know, you're gonna ask why I'm doing Pen-Chan instead of Akagi or Kaiji. The answer is, I have a lot of free time and most of the rest of the group doesn't, so I'm doing Pen-Chan for the heck of it. That's why I asked for a side project anyway, to give me something to do when the rest of the group is busy. But yeah, here's another chapter, and in this one, Pen-Chan stumbles his way into a high-stakes match!

Thanks to Iapetus for the cleans. Mahjong Day will still be this Saturday at 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST), but I may or may not be able to make it for more than an hour. If I don't show up, have it anyway and just leave the scores on the Mahjong Night Standings blog page. We are also in desperate need of a new typesetter or two, so please oh please contact me at shinichiakiyama@hotmail.com to apply!!

Atsuize Pen-Chan Chapter 2

Yeah, here's a little something to tide you over while we look for a new typesetter (which you can apply to be by emailing me at shinichiakiyama@hotmail.com). It's the second chapter of Pen-Chan, and it's a pretty sweet one. I'll try and get some more chapters of this one out, as well.

Thanks to Iapetus for the cleans, I typeset this one myself. Mahjong Night will be this Saturday at the usual time, but I might not be able to make it, I don't know yet.

I've got a confession to make. As you guys can tell, releases of Kaiji have been erratic and sparse, to put it kindly. In light of this, I've decided to leave FKMTkrazy. I've thought about it for while, and thought in the end it that it simply wasn't fair to everyone. For FKMTkrazy to wait for me to do my share of the work and for readers of Kaiji to have to suffer from my inactivity.

It's been a fun ride. Approximately a year. Hundreds of chapters, thousands of pages, and tens of thousands of words. I learned a lot about how groups operate, how much effort was put into each chapter, and how difficult Mahjong is. But all good things must come to an end. There isn't much else to say. I'm a Fukumoto fan, through and through, just as you guys are, and I'll always be following this group and the releases. I'll simply be part of the audience instead of the actors this time.

I want to give a final thanks to FKMTkrazy for all they've done for me. I was a complete amateur when I first joined (probably through a fluke, really), but they gave me a chance, and that's a lot more than most groups would do. It was fun chatting with everything behind the scenes and playing Mahjong when I could. A special mention goes out to Sonickrazy, for keeping us all together and for having to deal with my sporadic work.

Of course, I also want to show my gratitude to the readers for following all throughout this time. My typesetting work isn't the greatest and my blogs aren't the most interesting, but I'm grateful for everyone who stuck through it.

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 28-30

Hey guys. After a long hiatus, we're back with the last three chapters of Volume 3 of Kazuya-Hen! The onus on the delay is entirely mine, so please continue to appreciate the efforts of the others on the FKMTkrazy. Js06 for the translations, Biggums for the cleans, and Sonickrazy for the proofreading.

Note from Sonickrazy: We are also looking for a new typesetter, please email me at shinichiakiyama@hotmail.com if you're interested in learning how. Mahjong day is still on for tomorrow.

Akagi Chapter 189

Man, what a terrible time to have to delay the next chapter due to final exams! They're not over yet, but this is the first chance Kazuhiko has had in a long time to get any manga chapters done, and I'm very grateful he didn't just pass out from being overworked. But yes, the cliffhanger will be resolved in this chapter, wherein we see if Yasuoka truly is willing to betray a man he has known for 6 whole years!

Thanks to TA for the fantastic cleans, and to Kazuhiko for the stupendous typesetting. NOTE: I will be streaming the last chapter of the Ten PS2 game, the Akagi Persuasion Arc, this Friday at 20:00 GMT (12:00 PM PST). It's going to be the last stream I do for a month, so I hope you all come and see me as I attempt to voice-act all the parts myself. Mahjong Night will also be this Saturday at 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST), as usual.

Akagi Chapter 188

Not too bad of a gap between these chapters, I'd say. Yes, the next chapter of Akagi is up, and in this one, Washizu gets desperate... very desperate. Thanks to Iapetus for the cleans, and to Kazuhiko for the typesetting.

Going to be streaming the Ten PS2 game this Friday at 20:00 GMT (12:00 PM PST), continuing from where we left off, at the beginning of the East-West Battle. Mahjong Day is this Saturday at the usual time, 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST).

Akagi Chapter 187

The next chapter of Akagi is now up! Will Washizu draw his Tenpai?! Will he grab hold onto the ladder of freedom?!?! Well, that's what we're about to find out! Thanks as always go to Kazuhiko for the fantastic typesetting, and this week an extra thanks goes to TA for not only cleaning the chapter but also for painting a fantastic piece of artwork for our credits page! The original can be found at the end of this post, or you can see it on her tumblr here.

And of course, because I'm a shameless self-promoting fiend, I must remind you once again that I am streaming the Ten PS2 game this Friday at 20:00 GMT (12:00 PM PST). I also must remind you that Mahjong Day will be this saturday at 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST) on the irc.

Akagi Chapter 186

The first chapter of the blood-betting battle between the best baddie and badass begins!

...Sorry about that. But the next chapter of Akagi is up, and Washizu is about to face a world of trouble if he doesn't take Akagi's dealer turn away, stat. This chapter was cleaned by Iapetus (very well, I might add!) and typeset by Kazuhiko.

I will have Ten - Tenhou Doori no Kaidanji for the PS2 by friday, so it's a sure bet I'll be streaming it at 20:00 GMT (Daylight Savings has arrived in America) or 12:00 PM PST. Mahjong Day is at the usual time Saturday, 23:00 GMT (3:00 PST).

Also, it would be cool if someone might draw up a new credits page for us to use; we've had this same one for several volumes now and it might be nice to have a more... bloody page, shall we say, for the latter part of this battle.

Akagi Chapter 185

Kazuhiko was very, very, very busy this week so he couldn't finish the chapter until now, but it's out and boy is it a doozy! Is the match with Washizu really over? Can it be?! Thanks to Crump for the cleans, and to Kazuhiko for the typesetting.

We ran through to the end of the Anime-Covered material in Tetsuya Digest last friday on stream, you can view the recaps here. I'll be going back to Akagi PS2 this friday, so hope to see you there! Mahjong Day is this saturday on the IRC, as usual.

Kazuya-Hen Chapters 25 & 26 & 27

No, it's not your imagination. Yes, the next three chapters of Kaiji are finally out. I apologize for the extreme, extreme delay. School and my life simply got hectic really quickly, and there really isn't much else I can say.

If anything, you guys should thank the other members of FKMTkrazy who kept their game up while I was down for the count. Js06 handled the translations as usual, Biggums had the cleans for me way before now, and Sonickrazy not only proofread, gave me lots of times to sort everything out.

But onto the Kaiji, shall we?

Note from Sonickrazy: I will be streaming some Tetsuya PS2 this Friday at 19:00 GMT (12:00 PM PDT) on twitch.tv/sonickrazy. Mahjong day will be Saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PDT). I also set up an account where I'll be putting up highlights videos of the streams right here.

Akagi Chapter 184

After a bit of delay due to exams, we have for you the next chapter of Akagi! In this chapter, Washizu tries to avoid dealing into Akagi's riichi through every means he can! Thanks to Leoho (who, after this chapter, left the group) for cleaning, and to Kazuhiko for typesetting despite being on the brink of collapsing after a frightening exam.

On this week's agenda, I will be streaming Legendary Gambler Tetsuya Digest for the PS2 on stream this friday at 19:00 GMT (12:00 PM PDT). It's a very good-looking game, and is also quite fun, so I'm sure you'll all enjoy it. Mahjong day will be the day after at the usual time, 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PDT).

Akagi Chapter 182 & 183

After a slight delay, we're back with 2 more chapters of everyone's (well, except for a few stray commenters') favorite FKMT manga, Akagi! In these chapters, the South 1st Round, 1st Honba gets well underway, as Washizu tries to complete a hand without giving Akagi his winning tile, in the process! Thanks to TA for cleaning Chapter 182, to Crump Biggums for stepping in to clean Chapter 183, and finally to Kazuhiko for doing a quick and tidy typesetting job!

Also on this week's agenda, Akagi PS2 will almost certainly be coming in the mail Never mind, it came. I'm going to stream it this Friday at 19:00 GMT (12:00 PM PDT). I bet you guys are going to like it a lot. And as always, Mahjong Day is this Saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PDT).

In related news, Mr. Peng is currently busy with exams, but he assures me that he will have some new Kaiji chapters ready as soon as possible. Pen-Chan chapter 2 is also ready to be typeset, but I might just do that one myself.

Akagi Chapter 181

Hey, it's way late in the evening, but I remembered I have a chapter to upload and upload it I shall! In this chapter, Washizu is appalled by Akagi's decision to give up his Yakuman... but does he have a reason for it...?

I think my first of hopefully many Friday streams went well, I might do Kaiji DS this friday if people are interested? Either way, tomorrow we'll be playing Mahjong at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PDT) on the IRC.

Thanks to Leoho for the cleans, and to Kazuhiko for the typesetting!

Akagi Chapter 180

Another chapter of Akagi, coming right at you! In this chapter, Washizu has all but won the round! Does Akagi have a backup plan...?! Thanks to TA for the cleans, and to Kazuhiko for the typesetting!

As some of you may know, Akagi's 14th Kinichi is this Thursday, so I'd like to have an all-night (actually, all-day) vigil on Friday the 27th starting at 19:00 GMT (12:00 PM PST). I'd be marathoning through 6 Hanchans of Washizu Mahjong on the Akagi DS game on http://www.twitch.tv/sonickrazy/, and I'd like to make it into a regular thing where I play through Mahjong and FKMT games on twitch on fridays. I have some more elusive games to try out later down the road, but if nobody cares that's fine.

And as usual, Mahjong Day will be this Saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST).

After a minor break, we're back with the next installment of Akagi! In this chapter, disaster has befallen Washizu, but can he still return the blow? Thanks to Leoho for the cleans and to Kazuhiko for the typesetting, and also a special shout-out to Biggums for doing the redraws on 049-050!

ABSOLUTELY NO MAHJONG Day Part Deux will be this Saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PST), replacing regular Mahjong Day! We'll be playing E-Card and possibly some other games, so be sure to come on by and check it out!

Sunday, September 15, 2013

All right, so since I foresee a bit of a lapse in releases here, I figured I'd outline some of the goodies I have in store for us this Saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PST) on the IRC. I'm planning on starting off with E-Card, and then trying one of the other two games that I'll describe here, both from FKMT manga. As a refresher, here's the rules for E-Card:

But wait, you say, you can't do E-Card! If you just have people say what they want to play, that would let them cheat by entering in their card after seeing what the other person played! Ah, but that's where you're wrong. It is easily fixed simply by adding a "Dealer" to whom the card choices are messaged, and by letting him reveal them and keep score and the like. I'm sure I don't have to detail how the game itself works with real cards, so let me go through the steps that the game will go through.

Atsuize Pen-Chan Chapter 1

Welp, it's finally time for the first chapter of our newest side project, Atsuize Pen-Chan! I'm aware that there are existing translations of 1-5, but I felt like we should start from the beginning both because the raws I have are better quality and because I felt some of the comedy is lost without the sound effects. Anyway, on to the chapter!

Thanks to our newest cleaner, Iapetus, for a job well done on this first chapter! Thanks also to Peng for picking up the typesetting for this one. There will be a Mahjong Night tomorrow at 22:00 GMT, and an ABSOLUTELY NO MAHJONG Night the week after at the same time.

Akagi Chapter 178

After some delay due to a lack of communication, we have for you the next chapter of Akagi! In this chapter, Washizu's hand rises higher and higher... but what of Akagi's hand...?! Thanks to Leoho for cleaning, TA for typesetting, and to Kazuhiko for QC'ing.

Mahjong Day will be at the usual time this week, on the usual day. That means Saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST). I'm also thinking we should have another ABSOLUTELY NO MAHJONG day on the Saturday afterwards, where we mostly do E-Card. Last time we did it turned out to be pretty epic, so I think it's high time for another session.

Akagi Chapter 177

Why, I believe this is two days of releases in a row! Yes, and you have TA to thank for this, as she both cleaned and typeset this chapter, and very quickly I might add! Kazuhiko also QC'd this chapter, so thanks go to him as well. Now, in this chapter, Washizu starts to put a hand together to chase after Akagi!

For an update on Kaiji, we're still going through volume 3 right now, we're nearly halfway done.

There will be a Mahjong Night this saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST), on the IRC.

Akagi Chapter 176

Yeah, going pretty slowly on the Akagi front right now, but not totally stopped. We've got a new cleaner, Iapetus, working on some chapters of Pen-Chan right now, since that won out in the poll. I'm planning on doing the first volume from the beginning with that one, rather than skipping to chapter 6. I know a lot of you are going to find that unnecessary, but I just think it's going to be the best in the long run to have the full volume on our mediafire.

Anyway, a new chapter of Akagi is upon us, and in this chapter, Akagi moves two large steps closer to the Dai San Gen hand he so desires! Thanks very much to Leoho for the cleans, and to TA for stepping in to typeset this chapter! In addition, thanks go to Kazuhiko for quality-checking the chapter afterwards.

There will be yet another Mahjong Night this Saturday at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST)! Be there!

New Side Project Options

So, now that we're done with Rude 39, I suppose we have room for another side project to put out once every couple months on the side. Of note is the fact that I am NOT looking for a major commitment like Hero or Washizu that you'll be expecting regular releases from, this is just something for me to work on when I don't have anything else going on. We have the RAWs for the following Fukumoto works, so if you see one you like, please give it a vote in the poll on the sidebar, and don't forget you can vote for multiple!

Also, THERE WILL BE A MAHJONG DAY SATURDAY AT 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST)!! That's today for some and tomorrow for others. See you on the IRC!

First, we have for you the leftovers from last time I asked you for a side project, to which you loudly replied "RUDE 39". These were scrounged up by our good friend Skutieos, but aren't actually as rare as some of the other stuff I have in store for you. First up of those is...

Rude 39 Final Chapter + Retrospective

At long last, we're finally done with all of Rude 39! It took us... good god, it's been over 2 years, hasn't it? Well, we finished it, probably to the delight of some and the sorrow of others. I have some new early Fukumoto works we can pick up on the side next, and I'll put them in a separate post. But for now, let's finish off this series with style!

I'd also like to say thanks to everyone who worked on the series to get us to this point! Thanks to Skutieos for his Cleans in c1-4, to Biggums for his redraws in 1-5, to Kazuhiko for his Typesetting in 1-5, and last but not least to TA for Cleaning and Typesetting this chapter as well as the two previous ones!

Chapter 11 Link

Rude 39 Complete Volume Link

Well, this chapter was certainly more intense than any of the ones before it... there were a lot of close calls and moments where you think it's all over, but in the end our prep school students pull through and overtake the Pachinko Pros by the smallest of margins. They call out for Katagiri, but he is nowhere to be found, as he has left them without saying goodbye. This is certainly not polite behavior. You might even call it... Rude? Yes, and to put a nice little tie on the whole series, Katagiri and Satomi walk away together, with promises that wherever they go next, they'll be Rude as Rude can be!

So yeah, I personally felt that the series changed starting with chapter 6, and I really can't say I fully enjoyed the change. It became more serious and less comedic, though each chapter did have a few funny moments. Overall, this series really doesn't compare to anything else Fukumoto has done, but I still enjoyed it and would like to do more of what Early Fukumoto has in store. And now, below the cut, some of my favorite moments from the series.

Akagi Chapters 174 & 175

Two new chapters of Akagi have arrived, courtesy of our new cleaners, Leoho and TA, as well as our faithful typesetter Kazuhiko! In these chapters, the South 1st Round begins, and Akagi gets a very exciting starting hand...!

In other news, I started school yesterday, so might slow down or speed up, we'll see how it goes. Let's try for a Mahjong Day this Saturday at the usual time, 22:00 GMT.

Chapter 174 link

Chapter 175 link

"You will need to make this final dealer turn of yours into an explosion! A bonfire of continued Honba!"

Yes, Washizu is downright giddy that Akagi just wasted one of his valuable rounds with that useless 3900-point win. He doesn't seem to care that Akagi outsmarted him by aiming for the tile that would come out from his hand if he folded. He is, in fact, altogether glad that he chose to do so. After all, those hands will invariably be cheap, meaningless hands. They will do nothing to overturn Washizu's tremendous lead! Yes, all that Washizu can rationalize from this cheap win is that Akagi must be aiming for the flow, not for the points. But Washizu is someone very in tune with the flow, and states that Akagi will not get anything from this win, no flow, no honba, no good hands. But Akagi's first six tiles would seem to dispute that claim...!

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 21

At long last, the next chapter of Kaiji is here. Apologies for the long absence, but the summer has been rough. Thanks once again to those who helped make this long-awaited chapter possible. Js06 for his translating abilities, Biggums for his magnificent cleans, and Sonickrazy for his character-fleshing proofreading.

Note: Because of the chapter slowness, the next Kaiji release will be the rest of the volume (much like Illuminati-Manga), instead of chapters at a time until further notice.

Rude 39 Chapter 10

Hey everyone, it's been a week but we're back with the penultimate chapter of Rude 39, courtesy of the lovely TA! In this chapter, we have ourselves the first half of the showdown between our Prep School students and the Pachinko Pros!!

Also, may I remind everyone that we are having a Beta Testing session for Restricted Rock Paper Scissors tomorrow at 22:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST) on the IRC. If you're coming, please download the file ahead of time so you can jump right in! The file is here.

Rude 39 Chapter 9

Sorry for the week long absence, it's totally my fault as I was a bit unclear in my directions towards our two new cleaners. But we have for you today a new chapter of Rude 39, typeset by one of those two new cleaners, TA! We'll also have new chapters of Kaiji and Akagi coming up here pretty shortly, now that our group is working on them proper.

Thanks to Crump for the cleans, and to our new cleaner, TA, for typesetting this while applying to be a typesetter, as well! I'd say she did an excellent job!

Akagi Chapter 173

Well, that was certainly the longest hiatus we've ever had. 2 months, jesus. But we're back, and this time with two new cleaners, Leoho and TA! Thanks a lot to everyone who applied, and while I didn't choose all of you, if it turns out we do need more cleaners I'm sure the rest that applied will make wonderful substitutes. So don't give up, your turn may be coming!

Anyway, today, we have for you the 173rd installment of Akagi, courtesy of Leoho and Kazuhiko. I picked Leoho's clean because he was the first one to send me a clean that was up to our standards. Thanks a lot to him, and everyone else who sent me a clean for this chapter!

Chapter Link

"That 'Fold' was his true aim! Akagi had aimed for the 9-Pin that would come from Folding!"

Pretty epic chapter here, though the outcome was probably predictable based on the last chapter. Washizu is dumbfounded by Akagi's Riichi, but quickly rationalizes that the riichi must be to boost his hand up to Baiman, and therefore avoids dealing any tiles that would play into a Hon Itsu hand. Little does he know, Akagi does not in fact have a Hon Itsu, and instead has merely a Riichi Pinfu, worth 2000 points, with a wait on the exact tile that would come out of Washizu's hand should he choose to fold. Akagi was down by nearly 100,000 points, so it would only make sense that he would aim for the Hon Itsu Baiman hand. But instead, he aimed for the 2000-point hand, something that Washizu could not have predicted.

FKMTkrazy Needs Your Help!

Okay, after waiting around for a while for people to get things done to no success, I've decided that it's time we get some more help to get this group back on its feet. We're okay for Typesetters as far as I can tell, but since cleaning is such a taxing job I've decided that we should get as many cleaners as possible. No longer will we be having a single cleaner for each series, it's clear to me now that there is a much higher need for cleaners than any of the other two jobs. I plan to get as many people as possible to clean, so we can have multiple chapters of each series being worked on at once. Since cleaning does take a lot of time and effort, I think that's for the best.

Now, this is not to say that we'll be taking just anyone who says they want to help out cleaning. I'm afraid you'll have to prove it to me by cleaning the next chapter of Akagi. To help you, I have included with the chapter a few tips that I've gathered over the years. The link to the chapter is at the end of this post. It's quite a lot of text, but I've included some images and even an example to give you an idea of what I need you to do. Try and do your best, so long as you put in a good amount of effort I'm willing to put you on the team.

Also, because of this boom of cleaners, we MAY need a few more typesetters to compensate. I'm not sure, but if cleaning seems too daunting to you you can try your hand at typesetting. I've included some fonts and the script in the rar. The link to that is at the end of the post, as well.

So yeah, sorry for the month-long absence, I don't really have a good excuse or anything, I just took some time off. While all of you are working I'll be cranking out some translations so we can get back to it with a bang. On a similar note, I've closed the donations box for now. It's probably unrelated to the drop in releases, but it did signal the start of the fall for us, so we may as well just get rid of it altogether. If enough people want it back up later, I'll reinstate it.

Oh, and should we try for a Mahjong Day this Saturday? I think we should try for a Mahjong Day this saturday.

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 20

Well. After a long hiatus, we're back with another chapter of Kaiji! This one's the last chapter of volume 2. There are still thanks to give, however. Js06 once again provided us with the translations, Biggums for the cleans, and Sonickrazy for the proofreading. Enjoy the chapter!

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 19

It's been a long time coming, but here's Chapter 19 of Kazuya-Hen! Once again, I do apologize for my leave of absence. But it was well worth it! I crushed all my finals! Except chemistry, but fuck chemistry. Another note is that I will be attending Anime Boston this year! From May 24-26, I'll be wandering the halls of the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. Is anyone else going?

A round of applause for the rest of FKMTkrazy for holding down the fort while I was gone. They pumped out a couple of Akagi chapters, which were quite entertaining. Js06 is to thank for the Kaiji script, Biggums for the cleans, and Sonickrazy for the proofreading.

Akagi Chapter 172

Okay, quite the delay on this one, but we still got it out in about a week. Peng's still pretty busy with finals; I'm taking my own finals today and in a few days. So hopefully we'll see a boom in releases once summer vacation begins. But that aside, in this chapter, Akagi needs to get Mangan or Haneman to have a chance at coming back over the next 5 rounds... but...?

Thanks to Doc for the cleans and to Kazuhiko for the typesetting! Mahjong day will again be this Saturday at 22:00 GMT, which is 3:00 PM PST. Would anyone be interested in trying some Team Mahjong again this week?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and *someone* (wink wink) uploaded HERO volumes 4 and 5 to rawscans this week. If you read the raws, you should definitely go check it out!

Akagi Chapter 170 & 171, plus White Suit Names

After a week of no updates due to everyone being deep into their finals preparation, we bring you a double release of Akagi! In these chapters, the East 3rd Round comes to a close! Thanks to Doc for the very fast cleans, and to Kazuhiko for the very good typesetting job! Mahjong Day was a few hours ago, and it will be in a week, same time same place! That's 22:00 GMT, or 3:00 PM PST.

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 18

Heave ho, here's another chapter of Kazuya-Hen, to go! OK, that didn't make any sense, but the point is that there's another chapter of Kazuya-Hen! I'm also going to take the time here to apologize ahead of time for any future delays up until around mid-May. I have all my finals coming up, and unless you guys can help me with Biology, Biology Lab, Chemistry, Psychology, Music Theory, a final paper, and several  presentations, I'm going to need some time. I also believe that the other members have finals coming up soon as well.

A round of applause for the team here at FKMTkrazy for keeping up with the work. Js06 is always consistent with his scripts, Biggums is always ahead of pack with his cleans, and Sonickrazy is always excellent with his proofreading.

Kaiji don't want none of that!

Akagi Chapter 169

What? A new Akagi in less than a week?! Yes, I know, it's amazing. We're working to get back up to speed here on Akagi, last volume took something crazy like 6 months, but this volume is almost guaranteed to be many times faster. Kaiji's still chugging along, there should be a release here soon. In this chapter of Akagi, Washizu very nearly plays his Xia!

Thanks to Doc for his relatively quick cleans, and to Kazuhiko for his very quick typesetting. Mahjong Day will be this Saturday at 22:00 GMT, or 3:00 PM PST, on the #fkmtkrazy IRC channel.

Akagi Chapter 168

At last, a new chapter of Akagi presents itself! In this chapter, Washizu nearly draws his winning tile! He is very close to it... but could drawing a tile close to the Haku be worse than drawing something unrelated...?!

Thanks to Doc for his quality cleans, and to Kazuhiko for his typesetting, despite various interruptions over the past few days. Mahjong Day is back on again for this week; it will be Saturday at 22:00 GMT.

In related news, I have bought Volume 4 and 5 of HERO, as per the request of the voters on the poll. I am currently scanning them and making them look nice and snazzy, and I'll put them up on rawscans when I'm done, which I expect I will be in about a week.

In unrelated news, yeah, there's ads on the sidebar now. I've tried to make them as unobtrusive as possible by putting exactly one ad in a place where there's already a lot of activity with the donations button and stuff. Hopefully it serves its purpose.

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 17

Chapter 17 of Kaiji is here! And with it comes more plot, more details, but still not quite enough explanations! That's Fukumoto for you guys all right.

Thanks as usual to the gang up here at FKMTkrazy. Js06 is as reliable as ever with his scripts, Biggums with his cleans, and Sonickrazy for his proofreading. A special shoutout this week to Mokal, who generously donated $100 to us last month!

This is it.

What a simple game eh? Just have the savior press the button within 60 seconds, and the winnings double! Could it possibly be any easier? Well, it's only easy if you're on the top, as many of our astute readers have found out. But what it you're on the second or third row? Then what can you do? Well, there's no easy way out like looking back around. The steps solve that problem, so now we know. The easy solution is to use the process of elimination! If you're in the center, and the bottom doesn't light up, then just wait 40 seconds to make sure the top isn't the savior, and bam, everything makes sense.

Of course it won't be that easy, it really never is, especially if money is involved.

Rude 39 Chapter 8

We have for you another chapter of Rude 39. Only 3 more to go! In this chapter, Katagiri's group runs into some trouble...! Thanks to Kazuhiko for the excellent typesetting job. Translated and cleaned by yours truly.

Kazuya-Hen Chapters 15 and 16

Well, it's been a while, but here's not one, but TWO new chapters of Kazuya-Hen! Hopefully that'll make up for my delay. Thanks to all of FKMTkrazy for keeping up the good work while I was fooling around with real life and all that. Js06 for his consistent scripts, Biggums for his reliable cleans, and Sonickrazy for his spot-on proofreads.

A special shout-out to all our readers as well, especially the ones who felt enough gratitude to donate to us. Don't worry, we're all much more grateful, and the money put aside for RAWs will be very worth it. Speaking of that, you guys should vote on what we should spend that money on! Just vote with the poll on the side.

Akagi Chapter 167

A new Akagi chapter, at long last! In this chapter, everyone thinks Washizu has already won the whole game! He nearly has his Kokushi Musou Tenpai, all he needs to do is draw it! Everyone believes the game is decided, but...?!

Thanks to Doc for his high-quality cleans and to Kazuhiko for his equally high-quality typesetting. Mahjong Day will be in 2 days, at 22:00 GMT, which is 3:00 PM PDT.

EDIT: Oh, also, I should mention that we got $475.77 in donations last month! If you'd like to be recognized in the credits page of our next release for donating, send me a message at shinichiakiyama@hotmail.com with your real name, or do it on the forums at fkmtkrazy.forumotion.com/forum!

Anniversary Release: The Night the Stars Fall

Okay, this probably isn't the big release you were expecting for our second anniversary, but it does mark the first chapter we've done that was scanned by us. I got the Burai na Kaze Tetsu collection some time ago from Wright of HappyScans!, so I recently scanned it and wanted to do this One-Shot for our anniversary. I found it to be very moving, so much so that it nearly made me cry. If you're in the mood for a FKMT tragedy, you've come to the right place!

But before that, I'm also going to release our Forum as a bonus for this anniversary, where you can talk it up about this chapter and others without having your discussions lost to the public eye when we release new chapters, as happens with the blog comments. It's still something of a work in progress, so if you have anything you think would improve it, drop it in the Suggestions forum!

In other news, I went to Sakuracon with Crump Biggums last weekend, but I didn't meet anyone who reads our scanlations, which was a minor bummer. But I suppose it's just as well, since my Akagi cosplay malfunctioned and I ended up looking like a nearsighted mad scientist when I had my wig on. Biggums dressed as Yasuoka on the second day to much greater success. There's been talk of having another Mahjong Room next year, so if there is, you better believe we'll be showing up again!

Now, then, on to the Oneshot. This is gonna be a long blog post, but this chapter really made me think, so I have a lot to say about it. If you don't read the blog post, please read the last paragraph, as I have an addition to make to the content of the chapter.

"I was suddenly struck with the realization that my dad's face... was the face of a normal human being."

I've read this chapter a number of times now, first in japanese, again while translating, and again while quality checking, and now another time while rereading it, and every time it gets to me. I know it's not as devastating a tragedy as some of FKMT's other works (I won't say which ones in fear of spoilers, but those who've read them should know exactly what I'm referencing), but then we only had 28 pages to get to know the characters, so with that in mind it does a damn good job of presenting the tragedy. The last page is also particularly heartbreaking.

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 14

Hey guys look it's another chapter of Kaiji! Woohoo! For those wondering about the absence, I have to admit that the delay is mainly due to yours truly. I was on spring break and drove up to Boston to visit some friends. Next week is going to be a hellstorm of tests, work, and general sleeplessness. Nonetheless, Kaiji moves on!

Thanks to the regular folks for providing me with all the stuff necessary for me to do my job. Js06 for his translations, Biggums for his cleans, and Sonickrazy for his proofreading.

Note from Sonickrazy: If you're going to be at Sakuracon (Seattle, WA) this coming Friday and Saturday, you should stop by the Mahjong Room to see me and Crump Biggums in person! We'll be there pretty much the whole day both days, and Crump should still be there on Sunday if you can't make it either of the other days. Seeya!

*mad scientist vibes*

Rude 39 Chapter 7

Hey, everyone's busy but me, again! And that means, it's time to edit another chapter of Rude 39! Yeah, sorry for the slower releases, this happens to be the end of the quarter for a lot of us, so naturally people are going to be busy. I took my midterms already, tho, so I had time to work on this. Though I probably should have asked Crump and Kazuhiko if they wanted to help. >_>;

Mahjong Day is this Saturday at 22:00 GMT, as per usual, which is 3:00 PST. I may or may not be coming, however, as I will be up in seattle for Spring Break.

"If you want to think of Pachinko like a business, then we'll be the elite businessmen of the Pachinko world!"

And we continue the Prep School Students arc with a reluctant Katagiri and a group of 12 students who are all terrible at Pachinko. How can this mismatched group ever succeed at making a business out of pachinko? Two words: Scotch Tape.

Akagi Chapter 166

It's been a little while, but we have for you the next chapter of Akagi, wherein Washizu draws dangerously close to completing his Kokushi Musou...!

Thanks to Doc for his cleans and to Kazuhiko for his typesetting, even though this chapter was so difficult to do that it made him want to bludgeon Yoshioka with a cane. Mahjong Day is this Saturday at 22:00 GMT, as per usual. Don't forget daylight savings!

"What can one man do against a stronghold like that?! Huh?!"

Remember when I said the manga was going to slow down considerably starting in volume 19? Well, feast your eyes on the madman behind the slowness: Yoshioka, Washizu's right hand man. Seriously, we get it, Yoshioka. Washizu-Sama is a genius who prepared for every little detail. No need to flash back to what happened a few volumes ago, we all remember. Just get on with it, already!

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 13

Lucky number 13. But how lucky will Kaiji get in this chapter?

Kudos go out to those in project FKMTkrazy. Js06, translator, Biggums, cleaner, and Sonickrazy, proofreader. We couldn't have done it without you guys.

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 12

We're back with another highly anticipated chapter of Kaiji! This chapter features the aftermath of Kazuya's beloved novel. What does Kaiji think of his masterpiece?

Thanks to the rest at FKMTkrazy for putting in the work to make yet another chapter happen. Js06 for the script, Biggums for the cleans, and Sonickrazy for his proofreading personification!

Restricted Rock-Paper-Scissors Online Game Test

On Friday the 8th of March, 2013, at 22:00 GMT, we will be having a Beta-Testing event on the IRC for PiGPEN's online flash game of Restricted Rock Paper Scissors. Yes, the game from Kaiji. The rules are of course not exactly like those shown in the Anime and Manga, but they are edited in such a way as to tailor to the goal of having a rich, long-lasting online game. And you, followers of FKMTkrazy, will be given the opportunity to take part in the first full playtest of the game should you decide to come.

Thursday, February 28, 2013

This is gonna be a long post, and I don't want to upstage the Kaiji release, so I'll actually put the cut really early in this post to take up as little space as possible on the Home page.

Kazuya-Hen Chapter 11

It's been a while guys, and I know some of you are impatient for the next chapter of Kaiji. I understand your feelings, as I am as eager as you guys to read the latest chapter. I am part of FKMTkrazy after all. All I can say is that college is a place that sucks the time out of you. Whether it be studying for tests, catching up on reading, hanging out with friends, or going out to parties, there's always something to do. I really do apologize for the delay, but better late than never, right?

Thanks to the regular crew for keeping up the good work and providing this chapter for you guys. Js06 for the scripts, Biggums for the cleans, and of course Sonickrazy for his proofreading magic.

When we last left off, Sweet Prince Tatsuya had decided to use his dying breath in order to stab Arisa. Unsurprisingly, Arisa is very unhappy about this. She hurls insults at Tatsuya, but when has doing that ever been useful in any situation like this? As her next plan, she pleads with the Boss once again, hoping to win his favor. But the Boss is not so lenient this time around. He says that Arisa really shouldn't be too worried. After all, there is only a one in six chance that the sword will go through! Like rolling a one in a die toss! And what are the chances of that happening really? Well knowing Kazuya, of course it happens. A dead couple does not suit Kaiji's tastes so well, and so he yells at Kazuya for being so cruel. How could he create a book about such obscene acts?

It turns out it was because the story isn't fake, it's real.

Akagi Chapter 165

Right back to Volume 19 we go! When we last left Akagi, he had an awful hand that was closer to Kokushi than anything else, but even that was far away. Meanwhile, Washizu's hand was also a Kokushi hand, but of an entirely different caliber; it was remarkably close to winning from the very first draw, and seemed as if it could reach Tenpai in a matter of turns! How will Akagi combat this frightening turn of events?!

Thanks to Doc for the cleans, and to Kazuhiko for typesetting the chapter despite having his family watching a spanish soap opera in the background. Por que indeed. Mahjong Day will be Saturday at 22:00 GMT, 2:00 PM PST, as usual.

Also, there's been a bit of discomfort in the comments about our decision to move back to volume 19. I never intended to continue through to Volume 9 from the very moment I suggested we let Doc practice on Volume 8, it was always my intention to move back to volume 19 and continue the story that way. The only reason we'd be going back to 9 is to train another cleaner since they are easier to clean than the later parts, so under the current circumstances there is no reason why we should need to move back.

"There's no one alive that can stop Washizu-Sama! Not even if that someone is a demon incarnate!!"

So, while most of this chapter was Yoshioka and the rest of the White Suits praising their Washizu-Sama as the new messiah, Washizu and Akagi each get two draws over the chapter, counting Washizu's 14th tile that he drew for his starting hand as one of those draws. And even in just those two draws, the momentum of the round is clearly shown to support Washizu; he goes from 3 Shan Ten to 1 Shan Ten for Kokushi Musou in those two draws, while Akagi's hand does not move from its starting state of 5 Shan Ten. They are truly worlds apart right now; it seems as though, if everything remains as-is, Washizu will easily complete his hand first, possibly even through a Tsumo, and continue  his dealer turn with another Honba if nothing else.

As I mentioned, the better part of this chapter is taken up by Yoshioka and allies singing praises of God's chosen one, Washizu Iwao. Nobody else on earth could have done what he did in the round with the Double Yakuman, and if the end of the chapter is any indication, Washizu's pre-session negotiations were awe-inspiring, as well! Washizu-Sama has already won, so there is no need to worry any more for them. All that's left is to finish off the session and seize his reward in Blood!
