One Poker Hen 162-163

A double release! Things don't get any better than that! ...Or do they?

Thanks to Sonickrazy for the translations and to Crump Biggums for the cleans!

"I look like I might just fall for his trap?"

Kazuya delves deep into his mind trying to find reason for Kaiji's raise. Did he covertly sneak an assassin behind enemy lines? Kazuya seems to think he did. What sane person would risk his life when he has a perfectly safe card he can use instead? And to double down on that unsafe card at the same time? It's pure madness! No one would think this would be a good ide-

...Oh. OH! OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH!!! KAIJI! YOU REALLY DID IT!

Ahem. So Kaiji decides that truly Kazuya would think that in their circumstances, also considering Chang and Mario's reactions, that he must have played an UP card. A DOWN card would have them shaking. Not knowing if they will die in the next few moments is a terrifying thing. Kazuya considered this and chose not to call. He had the ammunition to challenge the raise, but chose to hold back. The fires of gambling almost consumed him, but he held back. That turned out to be a big mistake.

I always love to see Kaiji smile. It's a rare thing, but when it happens, he does so for a very good reason. He drops a fundamental truth on Kazuya. Something I had been thinking to myself for a long time. Kazuya says he can read into the minds of most everyone since he has seen what they do during those life or death decisions many times. But can he really put himself in their shoes? If the time came and he had to make a life or death decision, would he be able to do so calmly and with a clear head? I don't think so.

  1. Sounds like that's a setup for Kazuya risking his own life later on in the gamble. Because he needs to know what it's like.

  2. Thank you so much for making this a double upload, I wouldn't have been able to take waiting for that reveal!
It feels so incredibly satisfying to see Kazuya start to break in this game after all the high and mighty talk he's been giving for so long.

  3. Awesome double upload!! I'm quite impressed with Chang and Mario, I didn't think they had it in them! Even though I couldn't be sure how they would be able to keep straight faces, Kaiji's explanation was pretty good.

  4. "My opponent! My opponent!" *proceeds to ignore his opponent's facial reaction at the crucial moment* Seems to be a running theme in this game. Anyway, thanks for the double-release.

  5. Not only did Kaiji win this one, he got to call Kazuya on his shit which is what makes it all the more sweeter.

  6. The credits page at the end of the 163 wasn't an appropriate one after seeing Kazuya shaking and almost crying, was it?
