One Poker Hen 145

One Poker at its best! You can't GET it any fresher than this!

Thanks to Sonickrazy for the translations and to Crump Biggums for the cleans!

"The Poker game... of life and death!"

Of course Kaiji wants to use his King! His life literally rests on this round. Anything less than his full strength would bring him absolute, utter ruin. Don't come at me with that what if Kazuya has 2 Aces thing. First off, the odds of that are lower than normal. We've seen more Aces than any other card, which reduces how many are left in the deck. Second, even if he does have the Ace, are you going to pick the card that can lose to every other card in the deck, to try and eat it? Or pick the card that is almost guaranteed to get him a win? Things seem pretty cut and dry to me.

  1. It's been a few chapters since the 12th hand, so I don't remember what I felt Kazuya had.
Man! Quality Fukumoto storytelling in this one. I love this new possibility of playing the 2 to beat an Ace... if unlikely, this IS a manga

    1. I think Kazuya cheats with the aces, Kaiji will see through that and use the 2 to counter.

  2. Kazuya's clearly cheating. Guy seems to pull aces whenever he needs them.

    1. How do you explain the very beginning of the game when he had two aces then? Remember his reaction and how he played them? That's not someone who's playing to win or someone rigging the game.

  3. Interesting how the theme of this gamble seems to be not caring about what you already have and instead focusing on how you can use it to gain more. Kinda like how in poker, it doesn't matter as much what cards you have, but how you can win with them. Same with One Poker. Kaiji was doing perfectly fine so long as he thought it was his luckiest night, but then destroyed his own chances by being afraid and thinking he was too optimistic. I wonder if that'll factor into this round in any way.

  4. Kaiji maybe draws the hand with king-king it would be funny :v and another round thinking about 2

  5. I'm glad Kaiji stopped himself from blindly playing the King, knowing Kazuya's luck I have a feeling he now has an ace. Kaiji would have been better off this round if Kazuya got an UP-UP, however that's not the case.

To Kazuya it's highly likely Kaiji has a King as no one would gamble their life on any lesser card at this point.

  8. It's really a hard decision to play the 2 assuming Kazuya has an ace :/ .. I don't think Kaiji could do that while betting his life.

  9. If Kazuya is cheating than he doesn't have an Ace because if he has an Ace he would be able to make sure that Kaiji wouldn't have a 2 at the same time that he had an Ace. The question is how is he cheating. And more importantly how is Kaiji going to over come it?

  10. I had a feeling Kaiji's second card would be an ace, but a 2 presents the same problem - whether the showdown will be an ace vs. 2 or not. I'm thinking Kazuya's high isn't an ace, but Kaiji won't figure it out and he'll play a 2, against something that would've been beaten with his king.
And they haven't even placed bets yet, oh boy.
