"...I've got a guess, about this pit!"

What a great chapter. So much info packed into just one chapter. We learn everything about what happens when you lose at One Poker. The terrible tilt backwards. The remorseful remote control. The pitying propeller-like net. The terrifying tumble! Kazuya sure does like his games. It's literally a game within a game. At first glance this may seem like a real life saver that Kazuya added to help save someone who has lost. Thinking about it more deeply though, there's something that Kazuya hates that this can really help suppress.

Begging. When someone loses a life or death game, what's the first thing they will do? Beg! They beg for their lives. They ask for another chance, ask for help, plead, try and make deals. When all of that fails, what is left? Anger! Hate! Contempt! An absolute sense of loathing. Insults spew forth cursing them left and right. If someone knew they would die, they'd direct their anger towards the one person who caused that. Not themselves, but the game keeper. This final chance to save yourself effectively destroys all of that. That person will focus everything into pressing that button and timing it. They have no time to think about anger or hate or begging. Who knows how long that seat belt will be in place. Three rotations? Four? Two!?  Sure Kazuya would love to see someone fall to their death, but having someone else be responsible for their own death just makes it funnier. That statistic about a 1/8 chance is probably pretty true as well. If Kaiji gets in that situation, I hope he puts all his focus into that timing.

I feel like Kazuya is leaving out something though. Kaiji's look at the end is very telling.

  1. The fact that there's a way for kaiji to lose this and survive more or less confirmed that kaiji is going to lose at one poker, doesn't it?

    1. Or it means Kazuya will survive instead and be around for the inevitable rematch between Kaiji and Hyodo.

    2. It does seem like this was explained purely because Kaiji will be in this predicament, so hopefully Kaiji actually wins but Kazuya might hold a tantrum and manipulate the machine to his own will.

    3. I find it funny that us, as readers, are playing a game of deduction with Fukumoto himself.
I really hope he surprises us, but it sure looks like somebody (would be weird that it's anybody but Kaiji) is going to end up playing the game of chair-falling

    4. Fun fact, in Kaiji part 3, Kazuya busted out the little roulette of body parts they would cut off in case Kaiji went into debt, and that never got used, outside of showcasing Kazuya as a sadistic spawn of Hyodou. So not every "torture device" they have in Kaiji gets used. (Wow, I just realized there's at least five torture devices in Kaiji, that's a lot.)

  2. And then Kaiji actually managed to fall on the net, which subsequently breaks sending Kaiji down to a life with both legs broken.

  3. Or maybe Kaiji will lose all his lives, survive and come back for yet another chance.

  4. And here i was sure that in addition to Kaiji's Red life there would be two more lifes in the back of the drawer
