One Poker Hen 139

If there's one thing I can't get enough of, it's Kaiji!

Thanks to Sonickrazy for the translations and to Crump Biggums for the cleans!

"Gambling for your life is out of the question!!"

Some good info in here. We learn a few of the more nuanced inner working of Mother Sophie and how she works. So no matter what, you always have control of when to bet your own life. You can't be forced into betting your own life, it's something you must do yourself. It puts you in a precarious position being so far behind though. If Kaiji did win the next round and gained 2 lives, Kazuya could always raise Kaiji all in, making him bet his own life again or force folding and losing his hard-earned new life. He's really backed against a wall here.Kaiji finally asked the question on everyone's mind. What happens after he loses all his lives for real.

  2. The way I understood it, if Kaiji wins this next match with his red life, he's free to take the red life out of play, even put it back in the drawer. In other words, Kazuya can't raise and force Kaiji to either play it or fold; his maximum bet is only how many normal lives Kaiji has. The only way the red life can ever come into play is if Kaiji himself raises with it or consents to use it for the ante like he is here. From there, if he wins the next hand and then loses the hand after, he once again is free to walk away or do it all over again.

    1. That's why it makes so much sense for him to do it now, he's getting another miniscule chance just for risking his life with a king. Kazuya can't bullshit another ace now, can he?

    2. Well since there should be only 1 ace left in the game now, it is pretty much impossible for him to lose unless it is either rigged or kazuya is fucking lucky as hell (or if fukumoto is an asshole but thats out of question e.é )

    3. Since 3 decks were shuffled and cut at the beginning, there can actually be anything from 0 to 9 aces left in the game right now.

  3. I'm surprising how forgiving the rules are regarding being able to not play it.

Still, I'm sure it's going to fall into the temptation of using just 1 life when you could be raising for an even bigger win just by adding it to the play.

  4. I'm already trying to picture the game changing bluff that Kaiji will make using this newfound weapon. After he digs his way out of this pit of despair the red life becomes an insanely powerful bargaining chip, with the power to make Kazuya reevaluate even the hands where has an overwhelming statistical advantage.

  8. Really appreciate the bump up to 1 chapter a week, but any idea if it'll be able to come quicker at some point?
