One Poker-hen 116

Kaiji ties the score! Kaiji and Kazuya each hold 1.2 Billion yen in lives. It's anyone's game now! Let's see if Kaiji's winning streak continues?

Thanks to Sonickrazy for the translations and to Crump for the cleans.

One Poker-hen 116

"He took advantage of me!"

Kaiji musters up all of his luck and draws out a KING! Truly, he is riding the divine wind that will take him to heaven. He merely reached out and grabbed hold of Lady Luck's hand. And what is the Lucky Lady's name? Mother Sophie. As Kazuya had said in the very beginning, you must curry favor with Mother Sophie. Win her over to your side. Kaiji has done just that. If 4 wins in a row with a 5th win 100% guaranteed, I don't know what is.

But then why? Why is Kaiji looking so despondent? It's as if... Things are too good to be true.

  1. Kaiji's position is going to be blown in the upcoming hands. Even though he wins with this next hand regardless of what he plays, it will be revealed he played a Queen or a King, something that should never be played vs DOWN/DOWN. This will give Kazuya the hint that one of Kaiji's cards going into the 6th round is likely Queen/King/Ace. Giving Kazuya any information in that manner is disastrous.

My prediction is that Kaiji will play the Queen, wanting to save the obviously stronger King (only losing to Ace and tying on King rather than losing on King and Ace both). And as already stated, Kazuya will assume from the Queen that the UP card is King/Ace, perhaps leaning on King due to the two Aces already played previously.

    1. It would be a smarter move to use the king since kazuya would think kaiji is using his second strongest card, therefore he would think kaiji has an ace that can be defeated with a two. In that situation, kaiji can raise making it seem like he is trying to make kazuya fold so his two doesn't defeat the imaginary ace. Kazuya would raise too, thinking precisely that making him fold is kaiji's strategy to not lose with the imaginary ace. Of course, kaiji would have a queen so he would win. This prediction is based on kazuya getting a two so if thats not the case well shit.

    2. This 100%. Kaiji should definitely play the King here. IT WOULD PLANT A SEED OF DOUBT IN THE ENEMY'S MIND! TRAP THE ENEMY... WITHIN THE FOREST LABYRINTH OF CONFUSION!

    3. Here's my take on Kaiji "sour" expression

      It's a bluff

Essentially he wants to recreate the first round, where Kazuya had two aces. That would in Kazuyas eyes explain why Kaiji looks displeased

Why would it matter? Well if Kazuya had a two, he could feel inclined to raise. Even if he does not have a two he could still raise as a bluff. That would give Kaiji an easy two lifes

    4. Something that worries me is precisely that. Two easy lifes would make kaiji have 8, and in that case kaiji might as well win the game in 10 more chapters or so. Its just weird, i think fukumoto has something fishy going on with this..maybe kazuya will make a comeback or something, idk. To me is just so weird finally seeing kaiji win from the very begining after all the dispair from the previous games, i mean the game is fair so we can finally see kaiji play without worring about the other side cheating but still...i always tough kaiji has been able to make his strategirs work because he had a solid ground to stand on, something that was absolutely certain and would make the other side's movements predictable and that was the fact that they were always cheating. I just dont know anymore.

  2. A Queen against a 6 is a waste, it's as if the card was thrown to the garbage. A great card... DESTROYED!
In other words, IT'S NO GOOD!

  3. Told you all that hole did nothing, lets hope something changes on the design of the game.

Also things are going way too well for Kaiji, this is too suspicious.

    1. Maybe it will do something but only if you have no more lives to bet. Like betting your real life. He might be waiting for Kaiji to be out of lives and at the end of the rail to tell him this. Because as long as Kazuya is the losing one, it would be better for him not to reveal this option. I guess he is okay with losing money- he wouldnt want to die in a game like this, but he certainly wants to give this chance to losing Kaiji, to make it more existential and prove his point (in case Kaiji is allowed to bet lives of his "friends", like someone already wrote).

    2. Still too early to crow about the hole being irrelevant. Until one side is running low on lives to stake, the hole won't matter for the time being.

    3. The hole likely doesn't move in the event of a fold.

  4. If Kaiji really was as great as Chang thinks, he'd have trusted his own deduction and raised in Round 3 already.

  5. FKMT doesn't usually take this long to pull the rug out from under Kaiji. Wonder what's going on...

    1. If you count trusting Miyoshi and Maeda to be him more or less on the rug, then I'd argue it did take a very long time for it to be pulled from under him.

    2. I feel like the way fans of FKMT interpret the pacing of FKMT stories is a very unique and personal experience that can never truly be explained or understood by anyone other than the individual

    3. Either there is something fishy going on or fukomoto is finally letting us see what a guy like kaiji can do when the other side plays fair.

    4. But season one of Kaiji the first few minutes they are explaining how shitty Kaiji is at gambling. He only wins when he out smarts the cheater.

    5. That was in the very beginning. He was a dull sword back then. He has been refined through everything he's been through. Each defeat and subsequent victory has reforged him.

    6. It is not Kaiji without cheating!!! Well, I won't be mad if this arc is going to be 100% mindgames but I like to think there's more to it.

Kazuya is an ass. There has to be some kind of backdoor or there has to be something more to mother sophie.

Remember what Kazuya did with the seatbelt in the 4th arc. Bad things will happen sooner or later...

    7. Thats a possibility. Maybe when he thinks everything is lost he will resort to cheating, revealing himself to be more false than everyone he acuses of being false.
