Kaiji Gaiden

Hello Kaiji fans! It's time for something a little different. We wanted to break up the beginning of the old arc and the new one somehow without leaving a hole, so we decided to translate an old one shot of Kaiji that Fukumoto did during the Espoir arc. This is the story of what would have happened to Kaiji had he not taken Endou up on his deal to go to the Espoir. Let's see how Kaiji handles Furuhata's debt.

Kaiji Gaiden

"Macau is a fearsome place!!"

Sic-bo is a game I hadn't really heard about, even though I have frequented many gambling establishments. It must be more popular in the East than West. There are many ways you can bet in Sic-bo, but the popular way is the obvious Big and Small. Think of it like red and black in roulette, more or less 50% chance either way.

I was surprised when Fukumoto told the story of Kaiji taking on a bunch of loans and stealing credit cards from his friends and family in a bid to cancel his debt out once and for all. I didn't really think that was who Kaiji was. We must remember that this was very early on in Kaiji, while Fukumoto was still fleshing out the true depths of who Kaiji was as a person. Funny enough, this is technically the first mention of Kaiji's family we have ever heard of. However small the thread is. I won't lie that I am very interested in his family.

Unsuprsingly, Kaiji loses the bet. He believes in flow here. That a certain amount of actions or a pattern deem the next action to conform to the following actions. Unfortunately, it is purely statistical odds here. You can pretty it up however you want, but in the end it's a 50/50 chance. With that in mind, technically it doesn't matter which one you pick, so you could absolutely grasp at straws and glean some insight from the situation. That makes it all the more fun.

Next week will be begin our Journey into the new Arc. We'll see you all later!

    1. I think Kaiji's family was mentioned in the beginning of the Espoir arc as well. At least in the anime, Endou mentioned he had a sister that worked in the government.

    2. Really? sister working for the state? that could do for a sweet arc with corrupt politicians Gin to Kin style.

  2. Kaiji you din't read the signs well.
Think about it, the hiraganas were: Ko, Ro, and Ri.
That reads Ko-loli, a really young loli.
Which means the next one was going to end being small, not big! for real man!
