Kazuya-hen 97

The time has arrived. We have officially reached the end of Kazuya-hen. Oddly enough, it ended in the middle of a volume. I can't say bye to that last arc fast enough. Here's lookin' at the next arc.

"I got influenced! Kazuya influenced me!"

Seems like Chang and Mario will be sticking around for a bit. I kinda felt like if it was just kaiji vs Kazuya and his men, things might be a little one-sided. Now we might see something like in Akagi with Chang and Mario thinking about what Kaiji is doing and should do. Or maybe Kazuya has a special plan for them. This sham of a friendship is something Kazuya hates more than anything it seems. As we saw earlier on during Kazuya's flashback, his impression is that a real friendship doesn't exist, purely based on the fact that at any time under certain circumstances anyone will betray someone to save themselves.

As to what Kazuya's game of choice will be for his showdown with Kaiji, well... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

  1. Thanks a lot! Last time I checked, the manga ends with chapter 112? Not sure, but I cannot wait for the conclusion!

  4. Looks like my comment got gut off ^^;
Honestly, I think this was the worst move Kaiji could have made. Chang and Mario just got betrayed by their friend, a person they were willing to risk life and limb for to repay his loans. I honestly doubt they wouldn't be above betraying Kaiji or even each other if given enough incentive. Also, reading this chapter, it seems like both Chang and Mario were actively trying to avoid Kaiji? I mean there was no reason they should have been in that alleyway if they weren't worried Kaiji would ask them to join the game or if they weren't worried Kaiji would take back the little money he gave them.
I seriously can't wait for this whole thing to blow up in Kaiji's face. Maybe Kaiji will be lucky and only Chang or Mario will betray him rather than both XD

    1. Don't worry. Surely Kaiji's allies won't betray him this time. What are the odds of it happening a fourth time?

    2. I thought it was rather obvious that Mario and Chang were hiding in the alley because they felt ashamed of themselves, especially in front of their savior Kaiji, but their gratitude towards him compelled them to at least see him off, even if it was just from a distance.

  5. So is it really over? MAL says it's 101 chapters

    1. MAL used to say 97, but somebody that was wrong and also stupid changed it. After this chapter, Fukumoto took a fairly long hiatus, before starting the new game in the next chapter. Technically this new game is still a part of Kazuya-hen, since the chapter numbers don't reset, but the volumes started getting labeled as "One Poker-hen," probably to distance itself from the Salvation Game, which people were getting tired of.

  6. Thank you so much for your work! Any chance you could do more than one chapter a week? No matter the answer, please keep the excellent job up!

  10. Great effort as always. I assume Fukumoto needs Chang and Mario to do Ohgi's role from Akagi and not understand/over-react repeatedly to things to pad out chapters ^^

  11. In Kaiji's eyes Chang and Mario are gems, the best that humanity could pull out, a rare find, a chance to finally get a friend for the first time on his life, and an opportunity to not jump a lone into enemy territory.

But lets face it, he has a history of being betrayed, and he literary just met these 2 guys today, i can see him ending in the same spot as always, that the epitome of friendship has not even one friend kinda has a nice ring to it.

  12. I'm confused....I have the raws for Kazuya-hen and according to the raws, volume 10 ends at chapter 100...

so are you talking about the Friendship game arc officially ending at 97 and not the actual volume? Because I find it odd that the new game starts in the last few chapters of Kazuya-hen.....

    1. Yes, the game ends in mid volume. The new game was just supposed to be a continuation of Kazuya-hen, rather than a new arc. For example, at the end of volume 10, it says "To Be Continued in Volume 11." It makes sense because the Salvation Game was just a prelude to Kaiji's gamble with Kazuya, the main event of the arc.
Technically it still is a continuation of Kazuya-hen, because the chapter numbers continue from 100 even when the volume numbers were reset.

    2. Okay, I get it :-) I'm sorry.....I read the text...I just misunderstood the context of what was written...I really thought the poster meant it was the end of Kazuya-hen when they meant it's the end of the Friendship game arc.....
