HERO Chapter 12

Fear not Hero fans! We will not be neglecting you! Hiroyuki's blind adventures continue in this installment!

Thanks to Tambur for the typesetting and to Crump for the cleans. I'll be streaming Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween tomorrow at 9:00 AM PST, and Tenpai for PS2 this sunday at 2:00 PM PST. There will be a mahjong night Saturday at 3:00 PM PST.

"He's just too different! Ichikawa's sense of hearing is far above average!"

"Kara Giri" was explained in the original japanese, and I believe the Saki translations handled it that way, so I decided to keep it as Kara Giri. Empty Discard would've worked fine, but it'd still need explaining anyway.

But yeah, Ichikawa has proved himself to be very proficient at reading other players, even while totally blind. And also equally proficient at throwing off other players' reads on him! Leave it to Ichikawa to use a trick specifically designed to throw off the kind of read that Hiroyuki is making, and do it like it was second nature. This part really reminds me of Tenma as well, Tenma does Ichikawa's trick against Hongou in the 2nd chapter, which I translated as the "draw switch fakeout".

But any way you look at it, Hiro's in trouble. Even if he somehow senses that Ichikawa is waiting for his 7-man, if he wants to keep his tenpai he'll have to play the 5-sou which will deal into Sasaki. Probably the best case for him right now is to just hope that Sasaki doesn't get any ura-dora and make it to the mangan hand that would bust him out!

  1. Thank you so much

  2. I'm so happy you guys are translating Hero again, thanks alot!. How many chapters are there until it's up to date?

  3. The newest chapter in Japan is 74, so 62 chapters, less if people aren't interested in magazine scans. Incidentally, that's still less chapters than Kaiji (the newest Kaiji chapter is 189!).

    1. 62 chapters sound fair enough. But damn 189 chapters for Kaiji. I guess we will have to enjoy Akagi vs Washizu poker edition. This is why I'm happy you guys picked up Hero again.^^

    2. I guess I should clarify that One Poker's chapter numbers continue from where Kazuya-hen leaves off. 189 sounds imposing, but it's really 189-97, which is 92. Still a whole lot of chapters though.
