Akagi Chapter 264

Yes! Without missing a week, Akagi is back, and we've moved into magazine raw territory! Importing kindai mahjong magazines to the US is rather expensive, so I appreciate all the donations that we've been getting; keep it up and we'll be able to buy the magazines as they come out for a long time to come!

Special thanks to Denji for scanning this issue! And as usual, thanks to Tambur for the typesetting and to Crump for the cleans. I'll be streaming Usagi this Sunday at 2:00 PM PST, and there will be a mahjong night tomorrow at 3:00 PM PST.

"To form an army that can take this demon and bury him once and for all!"

I was a bit unsure if we should continue to do the magazine raws. There were a few factors, most notably that magazine raws are (as you can see in the image above) very cluttered and cover up a lot of the action, as well as usually being lower in quality. In the case of Akagi, the chapters don't even get names until they're put into volumes. So I was hesitant to put up chapters when most online manga readers keep the initial submissions of each chapter without ever changing them. It was either do the magazine raws or do the volume raws, we can't do both. But after all the financial support that we got after announcing that we were considering doing the magazine raws, I couldn't exactly say no!

But yeah, super happy that people want more Akagi so much. And it's easy to see why when each chapter is as suspenseful and exciting as this one. Most of the chapter is filled with talk of the occult, and how Washizu and Akagi are communicating with the divine to draw in their starting hands. What was more surprising to me than this was that Ohgi was so dismissive of the idea; stuff like this has been happening the entire match, and Ohgi himself has talked (or rather, thought) about bringing the flow to their side and whatnot. I suppose it's still a big leap to say that you can control what tiles you draw by asking the heavens, but it's not a foreign concept to him I'm sure.

So, now that Washizu has drawn his way to 10 tiles of 9 types, one has to wonder if he'll continue to draw Kokushi tiles. If he can really demand such things of the heavens, is it possible that he'll even be able to draw his way to a Chiihou (first-turn Tsumo)? His hand is rather do-or-die right now; if he doesn't get the rest of the tiles he needs, his hand is going to be in pretty bad shape.

  1. Cheers!
The funny thing is that I scanned this chapter almost a whole year ago (11 months on the dot). To make things worse, this chapter came out even earlier than that, on July 1st of last year!

    1. Edit: I was looking at the wrong chapter. This one came out on August 1st. Still a hell of a long time though.

  2. Thanks but I have question. Will you redone the chapters once they came out in a collected volume? I really hope so because if not they it would honestly be better if you would just wait for volume raws. Better quality is always worth the wait.

    1. Unfortunately it's probably not worth the effort, most manga sites wouldn't update it with the newer versions and it wouldn't really accomplish much either. That's pretty much the reason why I wanted to wait.

  4. How many years has this arc been going on for now? 15? I think Berserk will end before Akagi wins this match.

  5. It still looks damn good, great job. Though you could replace the first and last pages of each chapter when the volume comes out

  9. Anyone else want someone to cheat? The more "impossible" it's supposed to be, the more I'd expect it from Akagi and Washi. Plus it'd be a nice change of pace from how the past few matches were all about 'flow' and whatnot.

    1. this will never happen, both of them don't want to win this game with these kind of method, this chapter was a proof when wachizo didn't let his men draw the tiles in his behalf.

  10. Can you tell us how we are on the donations? Like how much has been donated specifically for Akagi and how much More (if any) you need to keep on top of buying the chapters individually?

I agree with you there is a 'drop' in quality compared to the chapters taken from volumes.

BUT I also agree with the majority that it really does not matter at all. The story is Way way WAY to crazy for us to go a year and a half without updates.

Please please don't stop posting Akagi. Even when we get caught up and you can't go weekly anymore. Go monthly. Just tell us what you need and I'm sure we'll all figure out a way to get it to you.

  12. Having finally caught up to Akagi, just wanted to say thanks again. Hope my donation helps make future chapters of over the top reactions and repetition a little easier.
