Akagi Chapter 263

The final chapter of Akagi Volume 30 is now up! And now that we're all caught up to the volume releases, we're going to be moving back to Hero next week! Everyone who's been asking for it, you're finally going to get your wish! That said, this is a rather awkward place to leave off in Akagi, and Volume 31 probably isn't coming out for half a year at least. So if you'd like to help us buy the magazine raws and support us since we'd be working on 3 weekly projects, feel free to donate with the button in the sidebar!

Thanks to Tambur for the typesetting, and to Crump for the cleans! I'll be streaming the (maybe) last bit of Usagi this Sunday at 2:00 PM PDT, and there will be a mahjong night this Saturday at 3:00 PM PDT!

"He's at a dead end, and all the doors are shut!"

You have to love how excited Ohgi got over Akagi drawing 2 more souzu tiles... but seriously, it is pretty amazing. It's rare to have 10 tiles of 1 suit in your starting hand at all, let alone having them line up so well. Also, I don't know if you've noticed, but I've been using the phrase "But... it was no good!" a lot recently. It's actually that I've just recently decided to start translating it the same way; it's a pretty common phrase in Akagi that's become pretty well known in Japan. The reason I bring it up is because this chapter had a nice twist on it. Instead of "But... it was no good!" we had "But... it was the 1-man and 9-pin!", since it actually wasn't no good this time. The original Japanese, in case you're wondering, is "が...ダメ...!" (Ga... dame...!)

So, Washizu is struggling to even hang in there right now. Honestly, getting a Kokushi is probably the only way he can fight back this round; I don't think he has it in him to do any clever maneuvers or try to dodge Akagi's hand. But to get there, he's going to need the 1-sou, 1-man, 1-pin, 9-pin, 9-man, and Pei. His starting hand isn't all there yet, but at present he's still 5-shan-ten. Not exactly close yet.

We'll see when the next installment comes out!

  4. Thanks guys. Half a year without Akagi will be painful, but Hero will compensate for that lol.

  6. Take a year off of Akagi so that when you come back to it we'll have the next two tiles

  9. The flow is way too much in Akagi's favor right now, it's pretty worrying. There's gonna be some blowback soon; Akagi's hand doesn't suit him or the recent play at all.

Are you guys going to do magazine scans now? Or will you wait till the volume comes out? Doesn't really matter since we'll end up waiting the same amount either way, but I'd still like to know.
