Akagi Chapter 260

Akagi Chapter 260 is now upon us! In this chapter, we see the dora indicator... And maybe a bit more!!!

Thanks to Tambur for the typesetting and to Biggums for the cleans. This Saturday is Akagi's Kinichi, and to celebrate I'll be raising the stakes at mahjong night on the IRC to include a "Binta", and extra bet on top of the regular uma bets! If you've never been to mahjong night before, this is the perfect day to start, since your points can't go below 0! I'll also be streaming Usagi for PS2 this sunday.

"This starting hand controls his fate!"

The reason that Suzuki's starting hand doesn't matter is that if he wins, he'll have to do another honba anyway since he's not in first place. So basically, having Suzuki make a quick hand and then dealing into it is not a viable option for Washizu. Both he and Akagi have to win the hand, plain and simple. So this round should be really really exciting. So exciting that we'll be spending a few chapters just drawing everyone's starting hands!

It's interesting to finally hear from Ohgi's subordinates, even if they don't seem to really know Mahjong all that well. A starting hand in mahjong really is like a starting pitcher... in that they both have the word starting in them. Yeah.

So Washizu has a pair of chun. This is disaster, as Suzuki has a chun that washizu can call at any time he likes. In other words, he already has a yaku, right from the very first 2 tiles! Could this get any worse for Akagi and friends?! Not only that, but Akagi's first two tiles are disconnected, and tiles on the edges to boot! He'll have to get some tiles that connect to his 1-sou and 8-sou if he wants to win this hand before Washizu!

  1. I think this might be the first time we actually heard anything from Ohgi's men in the last 200 chapters

  2. A fresh perspective is as rare as it gets.

  3. Did they agree on the rule change of drawing the Dora indicator first? It definitely was drawn after drawing starting hands. Washizu's henchman say he is dealer and they will draw starting hands starting with him and after the review says he will draw the Dora indicator. It makes hand building more interesting but Ohgi should have said something.

    1. It got retconned partway through the manga to be before drawing the starting hands. Fukumoto-Sensei probably just changed it to make drawing the starting hands more exciting :V
