Akagi Chapter 79

Chapter 79 of Anime-and-Drama-Covered Akagi is now up! In this chapter, will Washizu give in to Akagi's new bluff?!

Thanks to Tambur for the cleans and typesetting. I'll be streaming Kaiji PS1 this Sunday at 2:00 PM PST, and there will be a mahjong day tomorrow at 3:00 PM PST.

"Akagi's lack of luck had saved him!"

Washizu could have won the entire game here if he'd only been a little brave and played the 6-man. I think if this hand had happened later in the game he would have pushed, but right now he still thinks of Akagi as some street punk, and I'm sure part of him wants to have more fun with him.

If I may say something (spoiler-free!) about the Drama, the portrayal of this hand in episode two really disappointed me. Right here, the drama showed what tile Akagi got when he changed out the Xia from his hand, and since that's the only opaque tile he has knowing that one tile pretty much gives away what Akagi's doing. I'm very disappointed that they showed it, since both here in the manga and in the anime they didn't, making Akagi's move at the end here to switch out his 7-man for a 3-pin very unexpected. And in case you missed it, they flash his full hand again later in the hand. It's probably the only thing I'm really let down by in the drama; everything else has either been an interesting choice or just plain awesome.

  5. Anyone know why Akagi doesn't wait on the 1m in the latest drama episode?

    1. By 1-man, he made it possible for Washizu to discard his own 1-man in the first place. There was a chance Washizu would hesitate discarding his word tiles because anyone could see Akagi's wait was definitely Manzu. Atamahane was definitely much less likely to cross his mind than just plainly dealing in.
