Akagi Chapter 242

A brand new chapter of Akagi has hit the stands! In this chapter, Washizu explains his thinking, and decides if the Pei can really be Akagi's winning tile! Will he play it?!

Thanks to Crump for the cleans and to Tambur for the typesetting. I will not be streaming this week, but mahjong night will be this Saturday at 3:00 PM PST.

"VEEEERY clever, Akagi!"

You have to give Washizu a lot of respect for working all this out in the heat of the moment, regardless of whether he plays the pei or not. Try and imagine being Akagi and having your opponent say exactly what you're thinking to your face; I would be utterly terrified. He seems to be talking himself out of it near the end of the chapter though, but as Ohgi said he could just be seeing how Akagi's side reacts.

Also, this is like the third time Fukumoto has used the "rolling a die where a 1 equals death" metaphor, isn't it. Once in minefield mahjong, once in Kazuya's book, and once again here. It's a good metaphor to be sure, but I somewhat doubt that 3 different characters could all come up with exactly the same metaphor.

Find out what Washizu plays... next week!!!

You're saying it's not going to be drawn out another chapter? I don't believe you.

  2. Next chapter: "But you know that I know that you know, so clearly I can't play the tile on my right."

  3. I know this kind of thing probably gets asked a lot so sorry in advanced for being annoying, but how many chapters are left until we'll be caught up with the raws of Akagi? Also the same question for The New Kurosawa.

    1. Honestly this doesn't get asked very often, so you're good. I'm kind of obsessed with this question myself, so I can answer it no problem.

We're 31 chapters away from being 100% caught up with Akagi.
I'm only gonna do volume raws for Kurosawa, so it's a little different. With volume 5 coming out very soon, we'll be 13 chapters away from catching up with volume releases.

    2. There's also 31 weeks until Christmas.
Which means if FKMTkrazy continues with the weekly releases for Akagi, but has a double release whenever a new chapter comes out in Japan, the translations will have caught up with the raws on Christmas eve.

  5. Thanks for the dedication as always - FKMTkrazy.

Just a question - What will happen with Hero/Gin to Kin?

    1. We released some hero chapters pretty recently, and gtk is being translated by someone else, isn't it?

    2. Oh, I saw the remakes - They were great!

Gin To Kin is getting translated decently by another scanlator group to my knowledge, but there are a few chapters that really need to be retranslated IMO.

Particularly 29~30 where the dialogue feels a bit fuzzy. Make consider putting it on a list of things to do once you're caught up on your current projects?

(No rush of course - You guys have been bringing excellent scans for years and I'm more than satisfied when I see a chapter of Kaiji or Akagi every few weeks or even earlier!)

    3. How about Kaiji?

    1. Don't forget another full chapter of washizu talking about how he's gonna play the pei, with 2-page spreads of ohgi's face all over the fucking place.

  8. This is bullshit! Where is Kaiji!?

    1. We abandoned Kaiji after seeing the One Poker arc.

    3. The focus has always been on Akagi for the most part. There was a point a few months back where Kaiji was "dropped" for another group to pick it up, but Sonic got his motivations for it back,

Kurosawa isn't being translated by Sonic, so that can get updated separately from the other two.

Although to be fair, we're pretty close to the end of Kazuya-hen and the past few Kaiji releases were all multi-chapters. So I'm pretty sure we'll get those in bursts.

  9. Man, the thing is that if the pei wasn't his winning tile, this would still be a smart play. From washi's perspective, it could go either way! I hate that knowing there are more chapters makes things less suspenseful, but I suppose washi could come back from a "death" like Akagi did.

    3. Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but.. I already talked it over with Sonickrazy on IRC.. we will be skipping Washizu Hell Arc. Sorry.

    4. Assuming you aren't trolling, will he translate it after the manga ends?

    5. They're a troll trying to start shit, and a retarded one at that. I'm pretty sure that Sonic himself would be the first to break such important news, not some random Anon. He should've at least wrote the comment under a FKMTkrazy member's name to make it look plausible.
