Akagi Chapter 240

Omataseshimashita (Sorry to keep you waiting)! In chapter 240 of Akagi, what will Washizu's final draw be?!

Thanks to Crump for the cleans and to Tambur for the typesetting. I will be streaming Mukoubuchi PS2 this Sunday at 2:00 PM PST, and Mahjong Night will be at 3:00 PM PST on Saturday.

"He let what was literally a lifeline pass him by!"

I realized too late that we should've done this chapter and 241 as another double release; the ending of this chapter is very abrupt and the chapter itself doesn't really do an awful lot. Such are the drawbacks to regular releases.

At least now we know that Washizu has drawn another dangerous tile and that he feels the Pei is completely safe. All that's left now is for him to pull the trigger and actually play it, though from his point of view there is nothing to worry about.

  1. Thanks for the chapter!

I don't see how Washizu can die in S3. The usual Akagi MO is to tell the key hand from the enemy perspective, where the win is a "surprise" and explained after the fact. Seeing everything as it unfolds from Ohgi's POV, where the win would be "unsurprising" seems like Fukumoto is just baiting us.

I wonder if Akagi's hand will be completely concealed from the viewer in S4.

  2. If washizu deals into a mangan hand there won't be a S4. The shock from 800 CC being taken from him alone will kill him Let alone the fact that 1100 has already been taken from him.

  3. Please stop translating Fukumoto's work.

    2. I just looked it up, and apparently there's an author and manga/gekiga scriptwriter named Fukumoto Kazuya. That's awesome.

    3. Sorry I was drunk while I posted that, please continue with your hard work, and thanks for all the translation, love you <3.

  4. Are Kaiji fans just as lazy and worthless as Kaiji himself?

Is that why we have no new chapter? Because no one took up the task of cleaning?

    Kaiji would be proud.

  5. cleaning and typesetting aren't the problem from what I heard. The translating is what's the killer.

    1. It's the cleaning. I can translate kaiji in like an hour per chapter

    2. Whaaaaat!? How many chapters have you translated so far?

    3. He has personally read all of them. It's the cleaning he's waiting on

    4. I can help you guys out by being a cleaner, but I'd probably need to be babystepped through it since I have no previous experience cleaning or even using photoshop in general. My only editing experience is doing really minor stuff with GIMP, Photoscape, and MS Paint so I'd probably be close to useless; at least at first. I'm currently a NEET and probably will be for a quite a while longer so I have the time and I love Kaiji, but I'd understand if you guys wouldn't want to have to walk someone through cleaning.

  6. I didn't even know what a cleaner did until I looked it up.

I and many others probably don't care how awesome the chapters look. So what if there is a slight shadow or other blemishes on the page. I'd honestly be perfectly happy if you guys just used Paint and text boxed over the original text.

Maybe even consider doing two releases: one hasty using Paint and one as it's currently done for people who want to wait.

I honestly don't mind doing the paint one if people think it's a good idea. I can probably do like 3 chapters a day via Paint depending on how fast Sonic gave me the translations.

    1. No, better late and quality than rushed and sloppy.

If you really don't have patience, learn Japanese in the meantime, you can become proficient enough in a year to read manga with a dictionary.

  7. Oh I doubt he would agree to that. You probably offended him a lil bit

  8. I didn't say anything about stopping the original way, just to let someone create a sloppy one as people obviously want to read this. Not as if it would hinder anything. Sonic just gives both guys the translations at the same time.

IMO, only a really small minority care how awesome the cleans look and how pleasant it is to look at. Do a poll and I bet the "more chapters each week" will win over "less chapters each week" regardless of how it looks.

People just want to find out what happens in the manga ASAP and then move on with their lives, basic human nature. A day after the final volume gets released, nobody is going to care how sick the cleans were and how long you took, besides you ofcourse and a select few others.

It may sound like I'm being a total c**t... and I probably am. I guess you've come this far that you may aswell finish.

    1. You're missing the point. A good clean or translation is not meant to be noticed. They're supposed to be unobtrusive so that it doesn't interfere with the reading experience. A reader is only going to notice a bad clean or bad translation.
And besides, it's not like a cleaner is slaving over some masterwork of scanlation. Cleaning does take a little more than MS Paint to look really good, but even the most time consuming cleaning wouldn't cause the kind of delays that Kaiji has been experiencing. As far as I can tell, the delays are being cause by the cleaner that volunteered to work on Kaiji going AWOL.

Anyways, I will admit that quick Kaiji cleans wouldn't look /that/ bad (probably about the level of the original Kurosawa series if you do a good job), but any actual decision regarding this proposition will have to be made by Sonic. I just felt the need to express my disagreement.

  10. Crump Biggums, resident FKMTKrazy cleaner, here to give my two cents on the topic. And by two cents I mean multiple paragraphs.
I believe there is a lot of truth to what the Anon commenter is saying about it doesn't matter the quality of the cleans. Several of my favorite scanlated manga series aren't cleaned/redrawn especially well, but I still enjoy them very much. Take Kaiji part two and Kurosawa part one, does it bother me that most of the 2 page spreads aren't meticulously redrawn into one continuous image? Yeah, a little bit, but I don't believe it lessens the impact the writing of the manga has on me.

So why don't I do a quick and easy white out for all of my cleans? Well, way back when I started cleaning manga I worked for a different group and when I tried that, they flat out rejected my cleans and told me I had do the redraws and make it look all nice. So I sort of got used to doing it that way, and over the years I have found a lot of shortcuts to make things look as good as possible in a timely manner. It's something I now take pride in and enjoy doing. I would only turn in a rushed/unpolished clean if I feel that I am the one preventing the group from releasing chapters. If it's me that everyone is waiting on to put out a new chapter I will (begrudingly) sacrifice quality for speed.

However! I have been turning in all the cleans that have been asked of me on time, so I see no reason to sacrifice quality for speed. Right now my job at FKMTKrazy is to do the cleans for Kurosawa, and Akagi so that's what I've been doing. (and I think Hero as well but I'm not sure where we are on the translations for that right now) I haven't really been pushing to help clean Kaiji because I'm more excited about catching up with Akagi and am content to wait until Akagi is caught up before focusing on Kaiji. But if the group wants me to do Kaiji chapters I could probably find a way to get them some.

If someone wants to step up to the plate and clean Kaiji go for it. If you don't want to put in the time and effort to do the redraws that's your prerogative. If you want cleaning tips or pointers, or if you just want to send me the pages that need redraws, here's my email. charliem@uw.edu
    thank you and cheers

    2. Nope! Not at all, akagi volumes like 20-25, kazuya hen v6 and v7, akagi zawa zawa anthology, and penchan to name a few were all pretty much done by other fabulous members of the fkmt team
