Akagi Chapter 237

Another chapter of Akagi hits the stands in a timely fashion! In this chapter, why is Washizu smiling at this new tile of his?! Could it be... a safe tile?!

Thanks to Tambur for the typesetting and to Crump for the cleans! I will be streaming Mukoubuchi this Sunday at 2:00 PM PST, and we will be having a mahjong night this Saturday at 3:00 PM PST!

"His gambling soul let this miracle take place!"

So Washizu drew the Dora, 9-pin, which eliminates the potential for a mangan hand from Akagi's hand. Of course Washizu thinks he can still Tsumo and take 3200 from him, which wouldn't actually be that much different from the 4000 of a mangan, but nonetheless it's good that his hand's possibilities have decreased in number. So, now knowing this, Washizu chooses to play his second Pei tile. Ohgi is overjoyed, but Akagi stoically sits and lets Suzuki take his turn! He has to hurry now, or it will be too late!! Why is he hesitating to lay down his hand?!

  1. This is legitimately my favorite Akagi chapter in recent memory. Ohgi's reactions are PRICELESS.

  2. Remind me how you can pass on a tile and win on it later?

    1. Temporary Furiten is negated when you draw your next tile.

  3. I thought that pei was Washizu's last discard, I'm curious what the heck Akagi is up to now.

    1. He doesn't just win, he will crush his enemy in every possible way. Imagine Washizu's desperation on seeing a call on the last pei, which he thought was his saving grace.

  4. Either Akgai is going to Chi the 1 man or he'll draw it and Yasuoka will call the 4 man. (Is there a clear picture of Yasuoka's full hand?) Either of these scenarios put Washizu as the last discard, adding Houtei to the craziness that Akagi is planning. Can't wait to see the next chapter. Also, much thanks for the translations.

  5. How doesn't Washizu see Ohgi's over the top reactions and facial expressions? But they see Washizu smile when he draws? Weird.

    1. Further more way way back when Akagi was collecting dragon tiles.

      Washizu noticed him.

      His expression.

He was wrong in interpreting what it meant.

      But he saw it.

      He bore witness
