Washizu Chapters 9 & 10

We're alive! Let me just get it out of the way first and foremost: we have officially (but possibly temporarily) DROPPED Kazuya-hen and will be leaving it to the kind anonymous poster in the previous post's comments section. The reason for this is because I am the only translator at FKMTkrazy, and while I thought I could do it, it turns out keeping up with 2 projects at once was too much for me since I now have a job that is very taxing on me. This is also an open message to the aforementioned anonymous poster: if you would like to become a translator for us instead of doing everything yourself, you are more than welcome, as our cleaners and typesetters are more than capable of handling Kaiji if we get another translator, and do not want to stop working on Kaiji. We also have raws for Kazuya-Hen v10-13, so do message me if you want them, even if you're not willing to join us.

Now that that's out of the way and our Kaiji readers have been appeased (lol as if), our grand comeback is with a brand-new double release of Washizu-Enma no Tohai! Now some of you may be ticked that this is not Akagi OR Kaiji, but we did say that we'd be doing this back when we released Chapter 7 of Washizu. This is the last Washizu we'll be doing for a while, it'll be back to Akagi after this. No matter how unmotivated I get, I REFUSE to drop Akagi, I've pumped so much thought into that manga and I'd hate to have someone else pick it up.

Speaking of Akagi, I will be doing a 24-hour stream (all-night vigil or 24-hour mahjong war, whichever you prefer) for Akagi's 15th Kinichi (memorial day) starting on Friday September 26th at 15:00 GMT (8:00 AM PDT) and going until the same time the following day. Yes, really! Here's the schedule for it, and here's the link to the stream! And now... here's the chapters!

Chapter 9
Chapter 10

"ARE WE EVEN SEEING THE SAME PEOPLE?!"

This is pretty much what Washizu is like, absurdity mixed with awesomeness with a bit of humor on the side as well. We really got to see Washizu's unreal strength on parade in this chapter, and I actually do think Ryuujin is a pretty cool antagonist. I repeat that he's even older and more evil than Washizu was when he fought Akagi, but I think the parallels about end there; he's not nearly as crazy and his luck seems pretty normal, and he even let his underlings play on their own, something I can't see Washizu ever doing at any age.

From what I can tell, Ryuujin Mahjong is a game with no calls and less randomness than regular mahjong, and it has similarities to Washizu Mahjong in how you can tell what your opponent has if you remember what they pick up. But of course that almost gets Hayabusuzuki into trouble when his read of Ryuujin's team's hand turns out to be incorrect. It would also appear that you MUST riichi in order to win, at least it seems that way since we don't seen anyone win without riiching across the whole arc. That's why the player in riichi discards first, before that I guess they play their tiles at the same time.

I can imagine some people being all "oh for fuck's sake, x-ray vision, really? This manga is ridiculous" after reading this chapter. Which makes me chuckle since it's proven not to be a thing in the next chapter.

"But his legs are like a newborn baby deer's!!"

I love how Washizu just risked his life over a mine he already had, over gold he just wastes on a statue of himself, and even makes his secretary wait outside staring at a waterfall for a week so he can collect said gold. And the ACTUAL PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN in this time period is the one that let him know about it. AND he manages to defeat a member of the US Army with two giant weights around his neck. This manga is so ridiculous it's awesome.

I did find a few things to be a bit illogical about this chapter, though. If a bit of clay on the tiles is enough to throw off the readings, how was Ryuujin even able to recognize the readings so quickly anyway? You'd need to do the math in your head that quickly, and somehow I don't buy that a man of his age could be quite that sharp. He only had the time from which the tiles dropped on the scale to when his teammates reached the tile, which was probably only 30 seconds or so. And more than that, how did Washizu know to have Hayabusa bring clay to the match? It appeared that he found out about Ryuujin's trick while he was fighting him, so what reason would he have to want clay for the match? I guess he's just that awesome.

So yeah, back to Akagi next release, unless we wind up releasing Kaiji or another manga that we just got a new translator for. Should be coming soon-ish, certainly not in another month.

  1. Hard to say no to Washizu, this manga just keeps getting better!

HERO any time soon? That had a ton of potential too

  2. Will you go back to working on Kaiji if that anon is a ruse?
Thanks for the new Washizu chapters.

    1. Probably not, since Sonickrazy did say he is too busy. If anonymous doesn't deliver, I suppose we'll just have to wait.

    2. I might have misunderstood, however it seems pretty clear that Sonickrazy stated that he dropped Kaiji. The 'possibly temporarily' was if the anon translator decided to join the team, which technically would mean fkmtkrazy picking it up again...

OT: Thanks for making a decision regarding Kaiji, this will make it easier for others to pick it up (anon or not), however I hope he joins you!

98.3% of us love you for the work you have put in so far (and hopefully will continue, however sporadic the Akagi updates will be ^^ )

Try not to burn out, if if worse comes to worst we rather you stop scanlating completely than having it affect your health.

  3. Man, this series is so good. But I'm not sure if I truly understood its greatness before the Washizu-copter...

Also, fun fact that you probably knew, but just didn't mention: the manga adaptation of Kanikousen is by none other than Hara Keiichirou himself.

  4. Talk about bias towards Akagi.

  5. Yeah, but they've always had that.

  6. "I REFUSE to drop Akagi"

Perhaps the single greatest line in this post.

  7. Good to know that you will be continuing, and thanks for the Washizu release.

Even if you'll focus mostly on Akagi, a chapter or two of Washizu from time to time would be nice.

  9. How much more of Akagi is left before we catch up?

Maybe once that happens there will be more time for other FKMT projects (like Shin Kurosawa)

    1. The most recent chapter is somewhere around 270. So, we're about 50 or 60 chapters behind. However, the most recent collected volume only goes to chapter 247, so we only have 35 chapters before probably switching to magazine raws, if possible.

Hopefully the nice Anon or some other person/group picks Kaiji up.

    1. Man, I really hope so.
I wish FKMTKrazy could at least do one chapter for Kaiji every now and then.

    2. I hate to say it, but I don't think the anon is gonna come through. Either he was just fucking with us from the start or he got overwhelmed/realized how much work it would be once he started and gave up. He said he would release weekly and its been 2 weeks since he said he got raws. I'm still hoping, though.

    3. He said end of September I believe, but I don't think he's going to come through either. I have hope though and I really want to believe. I still don't know why Krazy just can't put Kaiji on hold instead of flat out dropping it when we were so close to finishing the current game.
      Meh.

  13. Will these two chapters ever be Re-uploaded to Batoto? There was an error and have been waiting for a Re-upload for almost two weeks now.
