Atsuize Pen-Chan Chapter 4

"Expect Pen-Chan chapter 4 by Christmas" -me, with yet another unfulfilled promise

Yeah, a bit delayed, but I had some post-christmas busy stuff to do and didn't have time to do this. But anyway, this is the first really funny one. You'll see why.

Thanks to Iapetus for the cleans. I will be streaming Kaiji DS this Friday the 17th at 20:00 GMT (12:00 PM PST), and there will be a Restricted Rock-Paper-Scissors playtest the following day at 23:00 GMT (3:00 PM PST) on the IRC! Don't miss it!

"Don't discriminate against tiles that came from neighboring countries!!"

So yeah, Arasaki the gay yakuza leader is in town, and he's looking for a nice young man to have sex with. In lieu of this, Yamazaki takes everyone but his ugliest man out of the office for the day in hopes that Arasaki will just give up and go home. But he seems to have forgotten that a certain someone is spending the night at his place that isn't usually there, Pen-Chan! Hilarity ensues.

So yeah, really funny chapter. As a bisexual man, I'm always a bit disappointed when gay people are portrayed in manga as sex-hungry fiends, but considering this was written in the 1980's when Japan didn't really know much about gays, I think it's excusable. Speaking of the 1980's, all the baseball players referenced in this chapter are retired today, or at least no longer playing, but you can look a lot of them up on wikipedia, they were all playing for the teams this chapter said they were in 1986. The chapter probably had more relevance when it was first released for that reason, but it's by no means outdated just because the players are no longer playing.

I loved Pen-Chan's complete inability to make anything sound natural, even while saying "On" he has to make it obvious that it's a signal. And his ending speech was gold. Also, on Page 086, after Pen's MY GOODNESS!!, a bandage appears on his nose after a page of him holding it. Did Yamazaki clobber him, or did the thought of having 3p with Yamazaki make him have an eruptive nosebleed? You decide.

So yeah, that's about all I can think of, there's a lot more that was funny with this chapter but it's been so long since I first read it that it's kind of worn off on me. I hope those of you reading this for the first time got a chuckle out of it, though.
