Akagi Chapter 164 + Cleaner Recruitment

Hey guys, back again with everyone's favorite manga, Akagi! In this chapter, the East 3rd Round, 2nd Honba gets underway in the most unusual way imaginable! Thanks to Crump and Kazuhiko as always for their great editing.

As you may have noticed, there have been no Kazuya-Hen chapters. This is because the raws are quite hard to work with and Crump is rather busy with his new job and with school duties. As such, we are recruiting one new cleaner to help with either Kazuya-Hen or Akagi to take a bit of pressure off of our one cleaner. I would like this new cleaner to 1: Have read the japanese raws or not mind being spoiled on the images contained within each chapter, 2: Have had prior experience in cleaning or be willing to learn, and 3: Have enough free time to devote to cleaning. While crump will have some free time come winter break, I am thinking in terms of the long run, and having just one cleaner for two teams is already a bit of a stretch. So please email me at shinichiakiyama@hotmail.com if you qualify in the above three criteria. Don't worry if you're not a professional or anything; at worst, I'll send you back to improve something and you can learn as you go. Thank you.

Now, then. Hope to see everyone tomorrow for, hopefully, some Team Mahjong action at http://xat.com/fkmtkrazy!

"The man having bad luck and the man who has seized the flow will now have a Kokushi Musou showdown...!!"

Well, this is certainly unexpected. Both Akagi and Washizu have started out with hands that seem to lean towards Kokushi Musou, though Washizu's hand is legitimately close while Akagi's hand just doesn't have anything better going for it. The school of thought is that you should never go for Kokushi in mahjong unless you have at least 10 tiles of 10 types in your hand. If you don't, the probability is just too low. Washizu has cleared the 10-10 hurdle, but Akagi is far far behind, at 8-7. It's true that he could still go for some kind of Hon Itsu, and he does have two incomplete sequences in the manzu suit, but that route would be even farther than his already far Kokushi hand. So in the end, he has to go for Kokushi with this hand, or give up and try to support Yasuoka's hand. But then... if he can complete his Kokushi by some miraculous chance... that would shorten the gap by 32,000 points at the least, maybe even take some money away from Washizu at the same time. It would make that 99,000 point difference into a 67,000 or 51,000 point difference. But still, that's a big "if". Washizu has the flow, and his hand is already in Ryan-Shan-Ten, or two tiles from Tenpai. What! Will! Happen!!

If we get a new cleaner, you can find out very soon. ;D

  5. I don't mind waiting a bit longer for Kaiji if it means that there'll be more Akagi! (I know about the 2 teams so it doesn't even interfere with each other but still).

Been reading "Ten" too, really getting into these mahjong games :D

    Thanks dudes, keep it up!!

    2. I've only read the first 6 volumes, but its very interesting! I was surprised by Akagi's performance though, the first match he was in I mean, didn't feel like the Akagi we know at all... But that changes a bit towards the point where I am now though. Will update when I finish reading it!

    3. Yeah, I can see what you mean. But that was his very first appearance so his talent hadn't been as well established as it is now.

    4. Keep going Legato! The Mahjong action in Ten is second to none and just gets better and better throughout. The later matches are fantastic; rather than Yasuoka/Suzuki stand-ins, you get four fully fleshed out FKMT characters doing battle for the most part.

Prepare to have your mind blown FKMT style!

    5. I've read another volume or 2 and I have to say, it is starting to get interesting =D

A nice read between Akagi chapters while waiting for Kaiji to return.

  6. Actually, if Kyuushu Kyuuhai is not allowed, it is viable to shoot for Kokushi even if you only have 8-9 different terminals and honors. That is, if you get rid of those tiles and assemble a normal Tanyao hand, you will undeniably hold a lot of dangerous tiles in your hand by the time the other players get to tenpai, so you're likely to be in a bad shape to defend. But you can't attack either because your hand will probably be still a few steps behind the other player's hands in terms of Shanten count because of your bad starting hand. If you go for Kokushi you only have a very small chance of winning but you will get rid of the dangerous tiles early on and hold a lot of save tiles by the time someone declares riichi.

Sorry guys, I am very busy with university at the moment so I won't be able to do the clean the raws :(

  7. There is always an option of not cleaning the raws besides erasing the text from the background (and even that could be achieved by putting English text on top of that). I for one wouldn't care, I'm not reading Kaiji for aesthetic reasons.

  9. Yeah, sorry folks, finals and other real life duties are kickin my ass right now. I wouldn't expect any new Biggums cleans until one week from now. You'll definitely see the beginning of Kazuya Hen sometime this December, and it'll be great.
