Akagi Chapters 152 & 153

And right after DKaiji 80 the other day, we have for you the first chapters of Volume 18 of Akagi! Sorry for the delay, I've been getting used to college for the past couple days and didn't really have time for translation or blogging or whatever. But I think I should be good now if I manage myself well.

Thanks to Crump for the quick cleans and to Kazuhiko for finding time out of *his* busy schedule to typeset, as well. Mahjong Day is at 22:00 GMT today on xat.com/fkmtkrazy.

Also, Mahjongkrazy has released the 4th chapter of Tetsuya. You can find it by going to the Mahjongkrazy branch link at the top of this page.

"Which hand are you going for, Washizu Iwao?!"

Everyone around Washizu (with the possible exception of Akagi) expects him to play the 1-pin and go headlong towards the Tsuu Ii Sou Yakuman hand, especially because of how lucky he is at the moment. But, contrary to their predictions, Washizu plays a tile from his triplet of Nan, giving himself Tenpai on a Baiman, Chii Toitsu hand. All three of the Hatsu are certainly in the draw pile as I mentioned last chapter, but the thing is that he could get to Yakuman Tenpai just as easily as dealing the Nan, though he would only have one out remaining. It certainly does seem unlike Washizu to settle for the lesser hand when his luck is this good and it seems like his hand was given to him by the gods, but I suppose even Washizu can be a bit sacrific-... wait... why is he looking at Yasuoka like that...? Akagi didn't 'fall for' what...?!

"Pon! Pon, I say! I will Pon that Ton, there!!"

Oh my god, it's moments like these that make me love FKMT so much. Washizu knew that the Ton would never come out from either Akagi or Yasuoka normally, so he took the Baiman hand for the sole purpose of getting Yasuoka to think that he wasn't moving towards a Tsuu Ii Sou, and as such that the Ton wouldn't progress his hand any further by calling. Sure, this plan hinged on Suzuki having the opaque Nan, but it was still very fine play in this situation. Akagi appears as though he knew what Washizu was up to from the get-go, but he didn't seem to make any effort to stop Yasuoka from playing the Ton. Perhaps, like the 1-pin, he wanted Washizu to call the Ton to lead him towards a Yakuman win off Suzuki rather than a tsumo himself? I suppose we will see.

  1. A pleasant surprise. You guys seem to be on an Akagi rush. Out of curiosity, when was the last time the manga was updated in Japan?

    2. Ah... So Fukumoto is currently juggling Akagi, Kazuya-hen, HERO and Gyanki-hen?

      That's pretty boss.

    3. Well to be fair a chapter of Akagi comes out like once every two months. And he's only the writer for HERO...But still you're right, he is pretty boss.

    1. There are no chapters beyond volume 26 at the moment, unless you can somehow get a copy of the Japanese Mah Jong magazine..

You might as well wait until volume 27 comes out (they may take from a few months to around a year)
