Akagi Chapter 143

As promised, here's the first chapter of Akagi Volume 17, and also the first chapter of the meat of the Washizu Arc, the Sixth Hanchan Session! As many of you have surmised, ALL of volumes 17-26 is the sixth hanchan... and it's still not done, yet! It certainly does drag on at parts, but let me say that if you sit down and read it straight through, it's a very rewarding and thrilling experience. So that said, let us start off with the East 1st Round!

Thanks to Deakachu for the cleans, and to Kazuhiko for the quick typesetting. Mahjong Day is this Saturday at 22:00 GMT.

"The first round of the final, Sixth Session, begins!"

And to start us off on the right foot, the East 1st Round takes place entirely in this chapter. And no honba, either. Just leaves more room for the other rounds, right! Regardless, this chapter was something of a flashback to the final round of the 2nd Session, wherein Akagi had a nasty Xia that he couldn't get rid of or else it would be Instant Mangan for Washizu. Same goes here, only Washizu is in the west seat, so he also needs a Yaku alongside the 3 Dora of Nan to get to Mangan, conveniently given to him by the pair of Xia he has for fanpai. But this time, Akagi couldn't turn the situation around to his advantage and had to bail out and deal into Yasuoka's cheap, 1000-point hand to kill off Washizu's Mangan Tsumo. Kind of surprising that it only took a single chapter for this round, but then we've seen a round pretty much exactly like this before, and there's only the minor change of Akagi not being able to pwn quite as much.

So, Kazuhiko is now drowning in Akagi translations and cleans from myself and Biggums, so you should expect lots more where this came from. Stay tuned.

If you live outside of the UK, you need to see this. FKMT levels of zawa. http://youtu.be/RFuW7URRezQ

Replace the blue boxes with losing money, add some risk for severe bodily harm and I could see Kaiji playing this.

  2. Another great release!

So we are finally getting to the real game of Washizu Mahjong.

I have a theory that I have been playing around with for a long time ever since I heard about Washizu.

I can bet dollars to donuts, that Akagi is gonna win against Washizu. But that won't be all.

What akagi wants is a real match. Putting your life on the line. What if Akagi put Washizu in the situation he is in right now, having Washizu bet his own blood?

Oh man I hope I'm right, that would be just the greatest!!!

Great releases as usual! When will we be seeing more Kaiji, I sorely miss the guy.

Can I also ask when do you think volume 27 will come out? I'm not familiar with releases and I just finished 26 so..

    1. The magazine Akagi is serialized in gets released on a bi-monthly schedule, one chapter every 2 months. So It'll be a year and a half before the next volume, though they sometimes do include two chapters in an issue
